Border Patrol stops attempts to smuggle people

A.S. On the same day, two separate human smuggling attempts were stopped by Border Patrol agents that box trucks at two different Border Patrol checkpoints in the Laredo Area.

The first incident occurred when a box truck approached the checkpoint on Interstate Highway 35 north of Laredo. A Support canine alerted to the car after a driver’s immigration test. Agents discovered 13 hidden inside individuals from the country of Mexico who were all illegally present in the United States. The men and the car, U.S. Citizen, was taken into custody awaiting enquiry.

Thirty minutes later, the second accident happened after agents noticed a box truck at the checkpoint west of Freer, Texas. A Service canine alerted to the vehicle’s cargo area during an immigration inspection. Agents found an access panel which led to the discovery of an aftermarket compartment in which 10 people were hiding.

All 10 were from Mexico and illegally in the country. The men and the car, U.S. Citizen, was taken into custody awaiting enquiry. Notwithstanding the danger of the COVID-19 pandemic, traffickers tend to endanger the lives of the citizens they target, and our nation’s health and safety.

A.S. Border Patrol officers are working to deter the illegal immigrant influx and minimize COVID-19 distribution.
